The APSG 47 Spring Meeting will feature Keynote Speaker.

Elaine Buck, Marine Energy Technology Manager

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)

Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO)

Elaine Buck is a Houston native.  Her experience internationally in the oil and gas industry for Schlumberger, collecting, processing, selling, and marketing geophysical data, where she advanced into operations management, working and living all over the world. In 2006, Elaine became interested in renewables and completed her master’s program in Renewable Energy Development at Heriot-Watt University in 2012. From there, she focused her efforts on marine energy commercialization. She spent the last 10 years living in Orkney, Scotland, where she was the Technical Manager at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) where wave and tidal energy converters are tested in the sea.  In 2021, she joined the Water Power Technologies Office where she oversees a portfolio of projects that focus on the design and validation of wave and tidal technologies.

Topic:

Elaine will present information about the existing and future development of Wave/Tidal/Hydrogen marine energy.  She will break down how the federal regulatory paths of both the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) converge. As we move to the future of innovative marine energy sources, surveying and geomatics will play a critical role in its success. The funding landscape investments that are being made by the DOE will be presented with a discussion of other successful projects completed by the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC).
