The Necessity for Correct Surface Well Locations

I am starting this subject to solicit ideas, opinion and etc. concerning my assertion that it is vital that correct surface well locations (onshore) are a necessity and further that this means that well spots need to be as-built - not based on proposed locations - to avoid problems.  I believe this is especially true in light of extensive horizontal drilling.

    Jan,

Couldn't agree more and if you take a look at my past presentations at APSG and PUG, I demonstrate the kinds of errors and issues relating to incorrect surface positioning.  We routinely see 50% or better miss-location of surface well bore positions in most public, commercial and even client well databases.  There are some good examples on our website under well audits.
