Job Title : Survey Team Leader - BP Exploration (Caspian Sea)

BP is looking for an experienced Surveyor to fulfill the Survey Team Leader role in BP’s Azerbaijan Strategic Performance Unit (Az SPU), based full-time in Baku, Azerbaijan. This is an Expatriate posting in Baku, with links to our technical centres of excellence in Sunbury (UK) and Houston as well as to our global survey and positioning teams.

You will be accountable for delivering BP’s Caspian Sea survey operations safely and efficiently, ensuring corporate survey practice and regulatory adherence as required and providing the full range of survey & positioning assurance for the SPU. You will be accountable for the performance management of the survey team as well as budget control and survey contractor management.

The position requires close cooperation with multi discipline teams; (projects, marine specialists, operations and drilling teams, seismic acquisition, geophysical and geotechnical specialists) in order to deliver the full range of survey and positioning support required during the oil & gas field life cycle.

Coming to the Azerbaijan business with BP at this time offers a unique, in fact an almost 'once in a life-time' experience, given the scale of our business, using latest technologies at the cutting edge of the industry, and working with a fantastically committed group of people.

It is with great sadness that I have to report that APSG Member Tommy Cathcart passed away at home during the night. Tommy has been bravely fighting cancer for the last few months. Tommy will be sadly missed both as a friend and as a work colleague. As all of you know, he had a great spirit and enjoyed life to the fullest. His stories are famous and he never failed to make you laugh, and that made it easy for him to make friends. He was well respected by many people in our industry, and loved by his friends.

Our thoughts are with Tommy’s wife Minerva and the rest of his family at this sad time.

Tommy had requested that his funeral be held in Ballymena, but we are looking into arranging a memorial event in his memory. It was his wish that it be informal and a celebration of his life, and preferably held in a good pub in Houston. If and when any arrangements are made we will send the information to everyone.

Please pass this sad news on to any of Tommy’s friends that I have inadvertently left out.

    With regrets,

    Stephen M. Browne
